Elder Gallery, NWU, 2020
This exhibition was in relation to the fellow seniors that I graduated with from Nebraska Wesleyan. The four of us curated the work that we had made for our senior theses as well as adding new work that we had developed since the spring. In the case of A Crisis, I had created more grids of recent photos of the beginning of the year. There is a continuation of the process of archiving identity in these grids in addition to a new art book that I have hand made. This book is hand sewn, bound, and includes images from my thesis that are hand-stitched into the pages, which are made from the significant fabric of my childhood and recent past, both personal and from loved ones. In addition to my video, there is a chair that has a crocheted blanket draped over the back that sits in front of the projection, as a space to be filled by those that are learning more about their identity. This chair was stolen, while the blanket was hand made by my mother, who designed the pattern and individual squares by herself. These two objects are deliberately connected as material things that I possess as well as metaphors for how we shape our identity through stolen and gifted pieces.
